Article Publishing Charge for Open Access

Article Publishing Charge

As of 2023 the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease is a fully open access journal. Papers submitted for publication are subject to an article publishing fee (APC). The APC for the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease is currently US$2000/€2000 (excl. VAT if applicable), and is applied to Research Report, Review, Hypothesis or Short Communication/Case Report articles. This fee is for the standard CC BY-NC 4.0 copyright license. The CC BY 4.0 license can be purchased at an additional US$400/EUR400. More information on these copyright licences can be found below.

When an article is accepted for publication in the journal, the acceptance letter to the corresponding author will include a link to the journal’s online payment form. Authors can pay the fee by credit card or through bank transfer. After payment of the APC, the paper will be taken into production by the IOS Press production office. Payment of the APC must be received before an article is published in the journal. Paid fees are not restituted if an article is withdrawn or retracted after acceptance.

APC Waiver Policy

Corresponding authors from countries with low-income economies (as defined by the Research4lLife project) are eligible for a waiver of the APC. Fees are waived on a case-by-case basis. The corresponding author should notify the journal of their inability to pay the APC upon submission of the article by stating their case to jpd@iospress.com. Please include the full author list, affiliations, where the study was conducted, and the abstract in your request.

Invited articles are excluded from paying the APC.

Open Access Option for papers published before 2023

The Journal of Parkinson’s Disease was published in a hybrid model up to the end of 2022. It offered authors the option to make their article freely available on the Publisher's website for an additional charge of US$1500/€1500. For any article that has been published behind a paywall before 2023, it it still possible for the author to select open access. Once payment has been received, your article will be freely accessible within 3 days of receipt of the order. Please use the online order form, the link for which was given in your acceptance letter, and make sure to click "this is an additional order", and include your correct article reference number as given in your decision letter.

Open Access Publishing Licenses

The Journal of Parkinson’s Disease has transitioned to a full open access journal for its 2023 volume and onwards, thereby meeting all major funders' open access publishing mandates. The standard license under which articles are published is CC BY-NC 4.0 (open access non-commercial). Authors will have the option of purchasing the CC BY 4.0 copyright license, as required by certain funding agencies, for a surcharge. For more information on these open access licenses, see https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/.

More information on open access mandates (NIH/RCUK/Wellcome Trust) are available here.

Institutional Agreements for Open Access

JPD's publisher IOS Press is setting up agreements to support the open access publishing of research in its journals. These agreements can cover a discount or waiver of Article Publishing Charges (APCs) for corresponding authors from affiliated institutions who wish to publish open access in IOS Press’ hybrid and fully open access journals. To check if you are eligible to publish under these models, please see the information in the IOS Press Open Library, where the current (and any future) agreements are listed.
